Yes. We are open to all patients in the community.

  • if you have a family doctor in the community who is on vacation, sick or not available

  • if you are a patient of one of the 40 family doctors at the Albany Medical Clinic.

Requisitions for Diagnostic Testing or Referrals to Specialists or Rx refill are always at the discretion of the doctor who is working in the Walk-in Clinic based on your medical condition.

No.  If you feel uncomfortable telling our Reception staff why you have come to our Walk-in Clinic, you can just say the reason is ‘Personal’.

When you give us more information on your issue at the time of registration, we can help you get the medical attention you need as fast as possible. As a Walk-in Clinic, while we can treat a large range of medical issues, there are medical conditions that are better treated at your local hospital.

We see a lot of patients who are feeling unwell when they come to our Walk-in Clinic. The screening and masking helps to make our Clinic wait space SAFE for you and other patients in the area who may be immunocompromised. Please respect that we take these precautions and work with our Reception to get screened and masked.

  • Come to the Clinic in person
  • Call and get on the daily list.
  • If you have a family doctor at the Albany, you can book into the Walk-in Clinic list from our website. While a ‘time’ is assigned, please remember that our doctors see patients in the order that are placed on the daily list so that the ‘time’ is not an actual appointment like you would have with your family doctor.

We operate our Walk-in Clinic on a first come first serve basis.  When you call, book online or just walk into our Clinic, you may see an appointment time (it’s how our medical records system sets up our schedule) but please know that any ‘time’ you may be given is only an approximate time.  As you can appreciate, some patient issues can be dealt with by our physicians quickly and others require our physicians to take more time.  So…if you are waiting, please be patient and respectful to our Walk-in Clinic Reception staff.

If you are on list for the day and do not wish to wait, please notify Walk-in Reception staff so we can remove you from our list and book another patient.

No. Patients are seen in our Walk-in Clinic on a first come first serve basis. Reception staff will give you an approximate time of when you might be seen which can mean waiting anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of hours. The nature of each patient’s issue may mean a shorter or longer visit with the doctor.

It depends on the time of day and the volume of patients we have. On average, we strive to have a wait time of no more than 1 hour.

Yes. But we do not do casts. Our family doctor on call can assess your issue and, if our Diagnostics Department is open – you can get your x-ray done without an appointment, get a CD of your x-ray and go directly to the Emergency Department of your local hospital where they will get you treatment and followup in their Fracture Clinic.

Yes. Sick notes are at the discretion of the Walk-in Physician. Please be prepared that there is a fee payable for the form.

No. To properly complete this form, you need to go to your family doctor so that your medical history is properly reviewed.

  • Sick Note (for work or school)
  • TB test
  • WSIB form

Note: Any form that requires a review of your medical history cannot be done in our Walk-in Clinic – even if you have a family doctor at the Albany Medical Clinic.

  • Your Ontario health card/Provincial health card (Note: If you do not have a valid Ontario or other provincial health card, you will have to pay for your visit.)
  • Your current medications or a list of your current medications

Yes.  We must validate your health card at every visit.  Your health card helps us ensure that we have the correct person and therefore the correct medical chart to update with your visit.

Bring your valid Ontario Health Card to the 5th floor – Accounts Department – as well as the receipt for the fee you paid.  We will refund the money you paid less our administrative fee if we can bill OHIP and receive payment within 30 days.

If you have not been to our Clinic before, we need some basic information about you to get you registered into our Medical Records system including your email address and phone number. We will ask you to provide consent for us to be able to contact you by email or to leave a confidential voicemail – especially if you’ve had tests done at the Clinic where the doctor may want to see you return to the Walk-in Clinic or your family doctor to discuss the results of the tests.

Doctors who are accepting patients are identified on our website.  We only have a few of our doctors currently accepting new patients.   From time to time, we have new family doctors who are accepting patients.

After your visit, you can ask Walk-in Reception to add you to our waiting list or to book you an introductory appointment with one of our family doctors accepting patients.  You can also fill out a New Patient Registration form from our website and as we get new doctors, you will be contacted for a new patient consultation.

First – We triage all patients on check-in.

  • If you are in distress, we will get you in to see the first available doctor.
  • If you are with a visibly ill child, we will get you in to see the first available doctor.
  • If you have a medical condition that requires separation from all other patients in the waiting area, we will place you in an isolated treatment room pending assessment.

If you have a family doctor here at the Albany, they belong to one of two groups (FHO or FHG). When you come to our walk-in Clinic, we generally have two doctors available for you to see – one from each group. When you check in to the Walk-in, we schedule you to see a doctor from the same group as your family doctor.

The nature of each patient’s issue may mean a shorter or longer visit with the doctor. We always try to make sure that the wait times are approximately the same for all patients but there are times when a patient who came after you may get in to see a doctor before you.  And, if you are a rostered patient with a family doctor who is part of the FHO group, we try to get you seen quickly.

Yes.  And, it is possible that when you check in, Reception staff in the Walk-in clinic can check to see if your own family doctor has had any cancellations or no-shows and then send you upstairs.

  • We are centrally located and easy to get to by subway (we are 1 short block up from Broadview subway station).
  • We are staffed to try to get you in and out under an hour. We have two doctors scheduled every day for all operational hours.
  • Pharmacy onsite to get your prescriptions filled right after your visit to our Walk-in
  • Diagnostic imaging onsite with walk-in x-ray & ECG’s. Other diagnostic tests like ultrasound, Echocardiograms, bone density, and holter monitors do require a booked appointment.
  • When you check in with our Walk-in Clinic, our Receptionists will check and see if your own family doctor is able to see you upstairs.
  • If you have a family doctor at the Albany, your medical record is accessible by all family doctors in our Clinic which optimizes your visit to the Walk-in Clinic. Your own family doctor also has immediate ability to access the visit notes and continue your medical care effectively.  If you use other Walk-in Clinics, your family doctor does not get the visit notes and your family doctor gets financially penalized for the visit.
  • If you are looking for a Family Doctor, we have doctors, from time to time, who are accepting new patients.

Yes. We triage all patients on check-in.

  • If you are in distress, we will get you in to see the first available doctor.
  • If you are with a visibly ill child, we will get you in to see the first available doctor.
  • If you have a medical condition that requires separation from all other patients in the waiting area, we will move you to an exam room.

You can request to see a female doctor. Walk-in staff will advise you if a female doctor is working.  We will do our best to accommodate you but you may have to wait a little longer and you may see patients who checked in after you being taken ahead of you.  If there is no female doctor working, you can ask for a chaperone during your visit and one of the Walk-in Reception staff will attend your visit.

It depends.  Our goal is to provide service to all patients who come to our doors.  We check in as many patients as we can.  However, our Walk-in Clinic is scheduled to close by either 8:00pm (Mon-Fri) or 4pm (Sat&Sun).  During the course of the afternoons/early evenings, our doctors on call assess how many patients they can see prior to closing.  From time to time, we do close the doors early so that all patients checked in can be seen before closing.

If you are planning a visit to our Walk-in Clinic 2 hours before posted closing times, please call the Walk-in Clinic at 416-461-9471 to find out if you can be accommodated before closing.

Most tests will take between 2-5 business days to be returned to your medical chart after you’ve taken the test.  If the doctor feels that you need to return to the Clinic for a follow-up, you will receive a phone call.  If, after reviewing your tests, the doctor concludes that there is no need for you to return to the Clinic, you will not receive a call.  If you are still experiencing symptoms or want to discuss your test results, please come back to the Walk-in Clinic or make an appointment with your family doctor.

If the specialist sees patients at the Albany, you should book your appointment before you leave the Walk-in Clinic.  If you can’t stay to book, you can call 416-461-9471 to book.

If the Specialist is external to the Albany, the Specialist office will contact you with an appointment date.  You can always call the Specialist office directly.

And, if you don’t hear from us, you can also call our Booking Center to find out if there is any current information on the referral.

If your symptoms persist or worsen, come back to the Walk-in Clinic, arrange a visit with your doctor or go to Emergency at your local hospital.

Yes.  Please ask the Receptionist before you leave.

As soon as the Walk-in doctor completes his notes, you or your doctor will receive a copy.

If you provide an email address and consent, we can send you the note.
