What kind of physiotherapy does OHIP fund at our Clinic?
OHIP-funded physiotherapy covers assessment and treatment services, including rehabilitation following an injury or hospital stay aimed at addressing acute episodes or worsening of symptoms that lead to decreased function or mobility (e.g. debilitating event or disease (including chronic disease), pain, injury or surgical procedure).
We do not perform physiotherapy following your hip/shoulder OR total knee replacement if you have had your surgery in Ontario.
How many treatments can I receive at the Albany physiotherapy clinic?
When you see one of our physiotherapists at your first visit, they will assess your current condition and create a treatment plan. Treatments will continue until you have reached the goals in your treatment plan or you have reached a plateau. The number and frequency of your visits provided will be determined in consultation with and by our physiotherapist.
How do I get booked for OHIP funded physiotherapy at the Albany Physiotherapy?
While you do not need a referral from a doctor, we prefer to get your relevant medical information from your family doctor that will assist us in determining our treatment plan for you.
OHIP coverage is offered to patients who need a physio ‘program’ of a certain length and not a one-time exercise instruction.
What treatment methods are used by the Physiotherapists at the Albany?
Treatment methods include: heat/ice packs; ultrasound, laser, TENS, mechanical lumbar traction, paraffin wax, cervical traction. We also provide individualized home exercise programs. Manual therapy is offered at the discretion of the physiotherapist to help patients achieve their maximum improvement.
When do I get discharged from receiving publicly-funded physiotherapy services?
You will be discharged from care when:
- You have improved significantly and goals have been achieved;
- You can achieve further progress on your own through a home exercise program;
- You are unlikely to improve from any further physiotherapy;
- You determine that no further treatment is required; or
- You do not return for further follow-up and we have been unable to reach you for an update.
What is the Albany ‘Maintenance program’?
We have a maintenance program for patients who have completed their OHIP covered treatment program but want to continue on with physio for maintenance. No referral is needed.
Note: This can only be initiated up to three months after discharge from the OHIP treatment program. The Maintenance program can be ongoing. Fee: $25/session
What other services does Albany Physiotherapy provide?
Private/Insurance (We do not offer direct billing to insurance companies)
Services include comprehensive assessment – all modalities, consultation for exercise programs, manual mobilization for peripheral joints only and NOT spinal joints. The AMC physiotherapists do not do intensive one to one manual work.
Fees: $50 for initial assessment; $50 per treatment
WSIB
We have programs for back, shoulder and other musculoskeletal conditions and will provide all comprehensive paperwork as well as functional ability assessment as required by WSIB.
When I call to book OHIP funded physiotherapy, I’m told there is a wait list. How long will it take to be seen by a physiotherapist for my first appointment?
Our physiotherapists strive to accept and book all referrals as quickly as they can based on the number of treatment rooms, the number of available physiotherapists as well as the number of current patients being treated. Ultimately, we can only provide services to a set number of patients during the course of a twelve month period based on our contract with the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.
