The Albany Medical Clinic is fortunate to have been selected as a training site for the Diabetes Education Community Network of East Toronto (DECNET).

Their self-management education program is designed for adults with type 1 or type 2 diabetes and their families, who are either newly diagnosed or have not attended an education program within the last year.

It is a 4 hour class providing introductory information on management of diabetes, and deals with topics such as:

  • The myths of diabetes.
  • Long term complications.
  • Nutrition.
  • Medication.
  • Foot care.
  • Blood glucose self monitoring.
  • Exercise.
  • Emotions and stress management.

Classes at the Albany Medical Clinic are scheduled by the Toronto East General Hospital and generally occur once a month on a Saturday afternoon. Other classes are available at various other locations and times - check with the booking office for further information.
